Prolific Review: My Earnings on 2,769 Submissions and What to Expect
Prolific is one of the best platforms I use for paid research and AI work. I’m based in the United States, use it regularly, and waited eight months to get in. Here’s what my complete submission history shows: $6,302.83 plus £140.88 in rewards and bonuses on fully approved submissions, along with the screen-outs, uneven months, and limits behind those numbers.
My Prolific Earnings: What 2,769 Submission Records Show
My complete export covers September 2024 through October 2026. I analyzed every row and separated fully approved work from returned studies, screen-outs, partial approvals, pending submissions, and rejections. That matters: an advertised reward on a returned study is not money I earned.

These are approved submission rewards, not a PayPal withdrawal statement. The totals deliberately exclude other statuses, including any compensation attached to screen-outs or partial approvals. They are a conservative subset of my account earnings, not my complete lifetime cash-out total. Of the included rewards, $36.70 and £2.62 are recorded bonuses.
Useful extra income, uneven months
January–September 2026 adds up to $3,537.80 plus £28.95 in fully approved rewards and bonuses. The USD portion ranges from $161.66 in June to $802.65 in February. I would not turn my best month into a claim about what a new participant should expect.
My time estimate has limits
I currently estimate roughly 5–10 hours a week on Prolific, with most of that time spent doing work rather than checking for it. I have not tracked that schedule consistently across the history. Dividing these earnings by my current estimate would give a misleading historical hourly rate.

How I calculated these results
Source: my complete Prolific submission-history CSV, analyzed October 21, 2026. It contains 2,769 rows. For earnings, I selected only rows whose status is APPROVED and added Reward plus Bonus separately for USD and GBP, using exact decimal amounts. No exchange rate is assumed. No returned, screened-out, partially approved, awaiting-review, rejected, or timed-out row contributes to the earnings figures.
The chart uses January–September 2026 to show the latest nine complete months; the headline figures use all fully approved rows in the export. September 2024 and October 2026 are boundary months of the history. Monthly grouping follows the start dates as recorded in the export, without converting them to local time. The file does not provide PayPal transaction dates or a complete log of active work and checking time, so I do not calculate cash received by month or a lifetime hourly rate.
These are my results as one U.S. participant. They combine the work available to my account and do not establish typical survey earnings, typical AI earnings, or the cause of monthly changes. Study names, researcher identities, completion codes, and confidential project details are not published.
Does Prolific Screen You Out? My Actual Outcomes
In my experience, Prolific involves less screening frustration than the other survey sites I use. Most of my current time goes toward working. But “fewer screen-outs” does not mean none: my export includes 302 screened-out submissions, or 10.9% of its records.
Returned is different from rejected
There are 300 returned submissions and one rejection in my history. A returned study should not be described as a researcher rejecting my work, and I cannot determine the reason for every return from the export. Another 25 records are partially approved, 13 await review, and four timed out.
Screening still deserves your time
The 302 screened-out records have a median start-to-completion interval of about 40 seconds. That supports a more specific description than “no screen-outs,” but the interval is not a complete measure of screening overhead or active effort.
Prolific’s current in-study screening policy provides compensation for screening. The full advertised study reward is not the same as the screening payment.
What Is Prolific Now?
Prolific is a paid participation platform serving academic researchers, businesses, and AI teams. The work can involve opinions, experiments, product research, or judgment used to evaluate and improve AI systems. Describing it only as a survey site leaves out an important part of its current offering.
Studies & Experiments
Questionnaires, decision-making tasks, and other research still have a place on Prolific. Read the reward, duration, device requirements, and participation terms before accepting.
Human Judgment for Models
AI work can ask you to assess outputs, identify problems, label information, or provide feedback that helps a research team understand model performance.
Experience Can Matter
Some opportunities depend on verified skills or professional knowledge. Account approval alone does not unlock every specialized group or project.
A More Useful Way to Judge the Platform
Evaluate Prolific as both a research platform and a possible source of AI task work. Then judge each separately using the opportunities you actually receive. A strong AI project can change its value substantially, but another participant’s access is not a promise about your account.
What AI Tasks and Annotation Work Can Involve
Prolific explicitly offers data generation and annotation to AI teams. Its services cover text, images, audio, video, and interaction data. The examples below illustrate the kinds of judgment this work can require; they are not a list of assignments guaranteed to appear in your account.
Compare Model Responses
Assess which answer better follows instructions or provides a useful response. You may need to explain your reasoning rather than simply pick a favorite.
Check Accuracy and Relevance
Identify unsupported claims, factual mistakes, or answers that miss the request. A plausible response can still be incorrect or incomplete.
Label or Classify Data
Apply supplied categories or criteria to material. Consistency with the project’s definitions matters more than your personal interpretation of a label.
Write Detailed Feedback
Describe why an output succeeds or fails. Useful feedback identifies a specific problem and connects it to the task’s evaluation criteria.
Assess More Than Text
Some research involves visual, audio, video, or interactive material. Device, recording, and accessibility requirements can differ from a written questionnaire.
Test How AI Behaves
Participate in an interaction or experiment so researchers can study how people respond to AI, rather than only score a finished answer.
This can be more demanding than answering a short opinion survey. You may need to read substantial instructions, distinguish small differences between outputs, or defend a judgment. Before accepting, ask whether you have the time and concentration the work requires.
Prolific’s AI research offering also lets teams use their own task interfaces. An annotation page outside Prolific is therefore not automatically unusual, but its instructions, identity, permissions, and payment arrangement still need to be clear.
AI Research on Prolific: Public Examples and My Confidential Work
My main frustration is being rotated in and out of confidential AI studies. I cannot name the vendor or disclose the assignments, and I do not know the reason behind every change in access. For me, that makes this work difficult to treat as a dependable weekly allocation.

Why Not Everyone Gets Prolific’s AI Work
AI-related studies can use different selection routes. Some recruit through ordinary audience filters, while others use specialist groups or project-specific qualifications. An AI topic in a study does not necessarily mean it belongs to the formal AI Tasker program.

Researchers can target relevant audiences. Your language, location, background, or other accurate profile details may affect which opportunities you see.

There is no honest profile trick that guarantees a particular client’s work. If an assessment or invitation appears, read its requirements and decide whether it matches your actual ability. If it does not appear, continue judging Prolific by the studies already available to you.
How Projects Fit Into AI Tasking
Prolific’s Projects feature groups related studies into a collection with an overview of the wider research. It can make recurring work easier to follow than a set of unrelated study titles.
Look Beyond the Regular Study Feed
Eligible participants can switch between regular studies and Projects, open a project, and review its available studies. Read both the project overview and each individual assignment.

A collection may remain visible when its studies have no spaces. Individual studies can disappear when they fill or eligibility changes. A project page is not a guarantee of work waiting inside.
Most projects allow you to choose studies, but some research requires participation across multiple stages. Check that commitment before starting.

Prolific’s AI Tasker group is a participant qualification. Projects is a way of organizing related studies. A researcher’s qualification is a requirement for particular work. Passing one does not automatically establish the others.
How Much Does Prolific Pay for Studies and AI Work?
There is no reliable account-wide hourly rate. Compare the reward and expected effort for each assignment, then check what you actually received. Access to a well-paid task is different from having enough tasks to fill your week.
Minimum Study Rate
Prolific’s published minimum is £6/$8 per hour of study time. It recommends £9/$12 or more. These are study payment standards, not guaranteed earnings for every hour you stay logged in.

A Specialist Recommendation
Prolific recommends $30–$100 per hour for Domain Expert studies. That is guidance to researchers, not a promised rate or amount of work for every qualified participant.

My current 5–10 hours per week is an estimate. The submission export records start and completion timestamps, but it does not capture all checking time, interruptions, or active task time. Some work also uses its own timing system.
My approved rewards demonstrate that I have earned money here. They do not establish an audited hourly wage. For your own comparison, track all the time you commit and keep approved rewards separate from pending work.
Check Whether the Study Uses Dynamic Rewards
Some studies pay according to active task time recorded by the research platform. Completing less than the estimated task time can produce a proportionally smaller reward. Prolific specifically says not to use its own study timer to calculate that expected payment. Read the arrangement before accepting.

PayPal payments have been consistent in my own use. That is my firsthand experience, not a promise that every withdrawal will be instant. Submitting work, receiving approval, and cashing out are separate steps. My submission-history analysis is not a verification of each PayPal transaction.
Study Approval
Researchers have up to 22 days to review a submission. If no review occurs within that period, Prolific’s guidance says it is automatically approved. Many reviews happen sooner.
A rejection requires a reason consistent with platform rules. Save relevant submission details and use the official researcher and support process if there is a problem.

The published threshold is £6/$6 in approved balances, including eligible combined GBP and USD balances. Pending submissions are excluded. Cash-outs go through PayPal, with balances sent in their original currencies. Prolific says payments arrive within 24 hours, typically sooner.
New cash-out users and people updating PayPal details can have a 72-hour interval between cash-outs. Prolific does not charge a cash-out fee, but PayPal currency conversion can affect what you receive.

Prolific Tea
Prolific Tea is an independent, participant-driven researcher review site. Readers can look for reports about instructions, payment, and submission outcomes.
Its current search supports study titles, institutions, and Prolific IDs, with some researcher names redacted. Read dated accounts and sample size rather than treating a community rating or rejection count as a verified platform-wide statistic.
Explore Prolific Tear/ProlificAc
The subreddit includes discussion of AI task pay, availability, technical issues, and participant experiences. A July 2025 discussion questioned compensation and underestimated completion times for AI work.
These are participant reports and opinions. They can highlight issues worth investigating, but another person’s earnings, project access, or identification of a client may not apply to you.
Visit r/ProlificAcWhen checking an unfamiliar researcher, look for a pattern of specific, recent reports. A review explaining what was requested, how long it took, and how a dispute was handled is more useful than a bare star rating. Compare the claims with current Prolific rules and the invitation in front of you.
Keep your own contributions factual, and do not post confidential prompts, task content, personal information, or assessment answers. Community research should help you evaluate work without compromising the study or your account.

Are Domain Experts the same as AI Taskers?
No. Domain Experts have verified specialist qualifications or skills. AI Taskers qualify through an AI task assessment. Prolific says participants can belong to both groups.
Why is a project visible when there are no tasks?
A project collection can remain visible without available study spaces. Tasks can fill or eligibility can change. Treat the page as project context rather than a promise of hours.
Can I use ChatGPT to help complete AI evaluation tasks?
Only when the researcher explicitly asks you to use AI. Prolific’s default rule prohibits AI assistance in submissions. Your own judgment is the contribution being requested.
Can Prolific provide full-time income?
Do not assume that result. A high task rate does not establish sufficient assignments or continuing access. Judge dependable income using sustained payments and total effort.
Is Prolific Tea an official Prolific service?
